Windows Live messenger not keeping settings

A family member recently had the latest Windows Live software installed on my PC (w/ XP Home). Shortly after using it with no problems, it started to not save the password and login info even though they would constantly check the boxes to instruct it to do so. I'm referring to the "remember my ID" & "save password" boxes specifically.

Therefore, login is required each time they boot up the PC. Once logged in, it's fine and you don't need to re-enter it in for that day. Its just the first time after booting up. I would like to have it so they just have to do it that one time no matter when the PC is turned on. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but it still doesn't seem to correct this problem. Any idea what is going on here or how to fix this problem?

Same issue as mcf57. Started for no apparent reason and I cannot find a solution anywhere

Think about who supports this software. The news is not good.

On the flip side, try it without Spybot as well as a run "as Administrator."

Even though you are the administrator, vista has another run as administrator feature. Research that if you need to but it is how I cured my Firefox being unable to set itself as defaults.

Well, I was able to actually get a hold of Microsoft via e-mail support and then proceeded to inform me that this is a known issue and they are working to resolve it. Hopefully it is taken care of soon, but at least I now know it isn't our PC.

While I suspected it was a bug, this confirms my suspicion. I still think that UAC off, run as administrator is the ticket to many such glitches.

But MSFT rarely offers that advice.

Well one MFC57 in extracting such an admission from the GNEE. However the original designers of the pyramids are still working on those last few glitches. Lets hope this glitch will be done in our life time.

Bob:is there UAC in XP? I though it only a Vista feature. mfc57 and me are running XP

Anyway: Well done all

PS: Bob, sometimes it helps to spell things out for the dummies such as moir

My answer is generic. And there are similar softwares that we need to turn off or just uninstall that can stand in the way such as Teatimer, Norton, Mcafee, ZoneAlarm and the list is so long I can't possibly guess what you have installed.

Today many run Vista and since many others read the forums I note this so they can give it a try.

I am running Kaspersky IS 2009 which I think is the bees knees but it has run interference before. Finding the "adjustment" required can be a pain because, for me, it is quite a labyrinthine application. Have done a little work on it ie checked the "live" components have full privileges etc but have bigger fish to fry at the moment. Prior to this forum as a quick "maybe its this" I have reinstalled the live ID assistant but have not checked the result which I expect will be nil. The other possibility is that my reg cleaner got rid of one too many entries. I think I'll just wait for the fix from GNEE. Regardless Bob thanks for your help
