Ok, the office handed me the htc pro 2 with WM 6.1 and it was spotted with wmdc just fine. I can't tell if you have the required Outlook 2003 or later or if you installed a NORTON or similar that their privacy and information leak blockers are causing pain.
Sorry but I don't have Vista 64 here today to test this. But it seem fine so unsure how to proceed.
-> The key issue is that YOUR MACHINE has some issue. Since you wrote so little about the machine I'm stumped too.

Thanks for the help. I do not have Norton installed. Only anti-vir is Avira AntiVir personal. I had a Moto Q9, and had no sync problems with Outlook before. I believe I may have a version of Outlook older than 2003 however. Seems that the problems started with WMDC and WinMobile 6.1. If I go to My Computer, the HTC Touch Pro2 shows up as a storage device, but WMDC keeps saying that the phone is not connected whenever I try.

Windows 7 64 bit pro
Outlook 2003
The outlook doesn't matter YET. Since it's not registering with WMDC this means the problem is elsewhere and the lack of details means I'm left guessing badly.
I can share it works. I can't see why WMDC is not seeing your new phone. Let me fire up the htc and look around the settings ONE MORE TIME.

I see that on the HTC you could configure it to do what you are saying. Sorry, this is a new machine that the office sent me to test my software on (I author WM applications.)
This does not make me an expert on operating these things. I'm pretty good at programming them however.

I am back at it this morning. Can you clarify what you meant by you last post? Not sure if you wanted me to unclick the active sync button shown in your picture and click on one of the other ones.

I offered this picture as proof of one of a few ways we can create your issue.
You saw it shows up as a drive. Imagine if someone had checked off the don't ask me again button and selected the disk drive option. Remember I'm just a Windows Mobile programmer. I'm not a device expert. I happen to have the htc pro 2 w/wm 6.1 here for testing with my software so I thought I'd look at this fast.
I hope that's it and you find a way to uncheck that box.
