Windows Mobile Wireless Authentication to Router

Would like my cell phone to connect to the internet through my wireless home network [Cisco/Linksys WRV 200 business class router]

On my cell phone, I am at the prompt for 'EAP' type: The options are:

-PEAP
-Smart Card or Certificate

Looking for guidance on the pros/cons of these options. Additionally, I would ask about where the certificates come from. It is my understanding that the self generated certificates are not truly secure. As of this writing,and regarless of authentication, the status message turns from 'connecting' to 'available'. The wireless router has its own configuration of
WPA2 with AES authentication. As of this writing no connection has been made. Much thanks in advance for an informed response.

While I have setup many such connections what I've found is some smartphones don't do WPA2. I have to use the Cnet Networking forum advice of router defaults, broadcast the simple SSID and WPA. Some devices don't do WPA so we have to decide if we'll risk WEP.

To make matters worse I have THREE WINDOWS MOBILE phones on my desk (I author WM applications) and the setup from one to another has nothing in common.

Shame on the vendors!
