Can I set my Windows Mobile Device to a Target (Slave) Mode?

Hi,

My phone, a Motorola Q, has some files that I've (regretfully) installed. I need to get rid of them.

However, I cannot operate my phone without it freezing. Therefore, I was wondering if it was at all possible for me to connect it to my machine as I normally do, but have it set as a target device, where I can unlimitedly access / delete any file.

You can use ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Manager (Vista), both free downloads from Microsoft, to sync your device. Once connected, open My Computer and your Motorola Q should appear as a browsable device. From there you can delete any file that is not stored in ROM. However, that will not affect the WindowsMobile registry, databases, etc. and thus may not resolve your problem.

P.S. In the future you may want to create backups of your Motorola Q using SPB Backup, which backs up your personal files, installed programs, and even WindowsMobile itself, providing for an easy recovery from such issues.

HOWEVER I am on Vista and installed the new Windows Mobile Device Center. Then the WM 5.0 PDA I have is browsable without any "target mode."
