Buying Surge Protection For a Dell Laptop

When buying a surge protector for a Dell laptop, is the joules rating the most important decision? For example, will a single plug protector rated at 540 joules be enough, or should I look for a higher rating? I already have a whole house surge unit, so this is just additional insurance. Thanks!

Since you have whole house protection

I wouldn't spend more than $25 at the most. I usually buy them with at least 1000 joule ratings, but I don't have whole house protection.
