Dell Insperon M5030 not powering up

I have a Insperon 5030 that is now a couple of months out of warranty. It won't power on and beeps 7 times intermittently. Power cable seems to be fine and have tried static test. Was working fine before going into sleep mode but now won't power up. Any ideas of problem and solution?

I'd unplug anything that didn't come in the Dell box.

Thanks. Nothing plugged in but have established that looks like the motherboard needs replaced.

7 beeps.

That can point to more than just a dead board. I've seen such when the power supply, ram or even an old IDE drive fail. I don't have more than what's in this discussion to work with but be sure you have a good tech do the diagnosis first hand. You can spot them pretty easily. They would have a Volt meter on hand to check things out.

If it isn't in the user manual (often it isn't) that that 7 beeps mean, contact Dell Customer Service to tell you. Most likely it's the BIOS telling you about some broken hardware, and they know the details.

I've managed to track through the manuals and it looks like a processor failure - disappointing as it's only 15 months old. Thanks for your help.

Hi rdg1967,

The 7 beeps indicate processor failure or the system board slot wherein the processor is connected.
Replacing the motherboard first, may fix the issue.
Here is the Owner's Manual for your reference.

Yes. I've established that it is a critical error with the processor or motherboard confirmed when I spoke to Dell's technical support. Not worth the cost of repair but fortunately I established that I had extended warranty with a bank account and this has paid for the replacement. Thanks to everyone that assisted.
