XPS420 sound card driver

I need to update the driver for my sound card. None of the system tools give me access to see what the card is so I can check for a driver update. They say the information is missing from my system.

Problem is I get no sound from video I import from my new sony camcorder. This is the only time I have any sound issues

I doubt this is a driver issue.

If other sounds work and not this video file I'd consider this to be a CODEC issue.

I'll stop here since you wrote you are importing video and as such would only need this tip to go looking for titles such as MEDIA INFO to find that CODEC.

And again, CODECs are not a Dell's site.

I am not extremely fluent in this jargon, but I have heard of CODEC's before. Do you have a recommendation of how I proceed from here?

I noted MEDIA INFO to look at the file to see what CODECs are needed. I put MEDIA INFO in all capitals to make it stand out and since it is easy to find with any search page, I didn't supply any link.

Awesome, thanks so much! I spent 3 hrs on the phone trying to get help fixing this, and you resolved it in 1 minute!. I searched on media info, downloaded the app, found out the CODEC of the file, searched and downloaded that and, whoala! Sound!

Sorry for the short answers with no links but this is all volunteer and I don't add links when the words should suffice.

-> Sadly I think this is an indictment of the industry. That is, why didn't the system go get the missing part?
