I opened the link but i did not notice any downloadable driver for reinstallation of Wireless Select Switch Utility.

Could you please provide me with the link for the driver that corresponds to my latitude e 5520 laptop?

Please let me know which which Operating System are you using ? and also are you able to use wireless internet on the system ?

I have windows 7 64 bit and i am able to use the wireless internet.

As the wireless internet is working fine so this indicates its a windows file thats missing . We have 2 options available one of them is we can try and repair this file using the windows 7 cd or we can reinstall windows using windows 7 cd only .

Note - Reinstalling windows would lead to complete loss of information (documents, applications, music, video, emails )

thank you very much for your assistance. I will focus on the repairing option. So i will have to boot from windows 7 cd and choose the repair choice? Next there are a few options (startup repair, system restore, etc).. So will i have to choose each of them until my problem is fixed, right?

What about the system repair disc that i had made the first day i bought my laptop ? Can this be used?

At dell logo tap F8 and select repair your computer and once you get the repairing option please select command prompt and once you enter command prompt . Type the command chkdsk /r

Note - After chkdsk there is a space and the /r

It is me again

I did as you told me but i was given in the command prompt the message "The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive" . So what i did was to access the command prompt from windows 7 GUI ( cmd ) and then i typed the chkdsk /r and i was given the option to allow the check disk process the next time my laptop would reboot. So i answered yes and i rebooted my laptop and the whole procedure went normally (it took me 1 hour at least ) . In the end i could still not use Fn+F2 combination. My wireless and my Bluetooth are working fine though.

Is what i did the same with what you advised me to do or is it different to repair the system by cmd in windows GUI (and following the procedure that is mentioned above ) from tapping f8 at dell logo and following the procedure as you described?

In the back of my head i think about format but i do not want to believe that just a little dll format file can only be repaired just by doing the format procedure.

Does the command chkdsk /r have any difference from the command chkdsk /r c: ?

The repair disc that i had made before installing programmes: Can this be useful in a way or is it the same with the chkdsk /r procedure?

i performed a search in my c and i found the emsc.dll file in syswow64, system32, programdata/vista32 , programdata/vista64 and programdata/xp32. But the message that the file is missing still shows up when running the btmeter!

I just want to disable battery charging in order to prevent my battery from being in charge during the time that my laptop is on and plugged in. For example, if my battery is 100% charged and i have my laptop plugged in with the battery installed then the laptop would function by getting the energy from the AC adapter but the battery would still be getting charged without any reason.

I have been told that the battery stops getting charge when being 100% charged but when you have the battery inside the laptop that is plugged in then despite the fact that the laptop will not consume the battery energy to function , the battery energy will draw during time and automatically will be charged by the AC adapter (you cannot see this because on the system tray the battery meter shows 100% battery in charge mode) and as a result the battery gets charge everytime it needs. And i have heard that this is bad for the battery !

Am i wrong somewhere?

Current laptops already do the right thing for the battery. You are second guessing this and if you reload the OS, it will not change a thing. It's a shame you can't find good folk to explain all this and help you avoid trashing your machine.

well i hope that using the laptop plugged in without the battery inside is not equal to trashing the machine! why reload the OS? I do not intend to do so!

My only fear has to do with this emsc.dll file, which from what i understood is responsible for the function of fn+f2 combination. And this specific hokey is not installed in my laptop from what i understood. I came into this conclusion by accessing the hotkeys menu (in control panel) and i saw various hotkeys such as Fn+f8 but did not see fn+f2.

Maybe unfortunately my dell e5520 latitude does not support such bluetooth wireless switch utility!

So far you can run laptops without the battery. Seems an odd choice but you will encounter folk trying to save the battery. Usually it's a lost cause if you discuss it so be sure that you don't lose much time with those folk. They have either heard something or made up their mind that leaving the battery shortens the battery life. Which is true but then it's only a little and they lose the nice features.

It seems a shame to read the above and the off center advice so far.
