Dell web cam will not activate on my Inspiron 1764 laptop

My internal web cam on my dell Inspiron 1764 will not activate. I have windows 7. Windows Messenger says there is no web cam detected. It will not activate when I click on the web cam icon either. I have uninstalled my web cam driver many times. I did the same thing with the web cam central software but still no web cam. I have also installed these programs from the driver CD that came with my computer. I have also went to the compatibility mode for web cam central and checked windows vista (service pack 2). But still know web cam. My web cam used to work but not for several months.

Light for web cam does not come on.

Thanks for the Reply. If you mean the small light next to the camera lens, no it does not come on. But when I click the web cam icon the black screen of web cam central comes on. The web cam screen is their but no picture. So I think the software for web cam central is working. But the camera does not activate. I think the problem is the webcam driver But when I go to the properties of the integrated web cam it says it is working properly. Also when I uninstall the integrated web cam and restart the computer Windows automatically reinstalls the web cam. Is the integrated web cam different than the web cam driver? Any ideas of what I am doing wrong.

Load the OS back to the factory load. Many folk are looking for a way to avoid that but as a test I might boot up Ubuntu from USB or CD (no need to install) and see if the web cam works in a Live CD.

When I encounter this one it always comes down to 3 solutions.

1. The drivers from dell (you've done that.)
2. Bad hardware.
3. Restore the OS to the factory load.
