Sony CD-R/RW/DVD-ROM Drive door won't open in Dell 3000

The CD/DVD access door does not open on my Dell 3000 tabletop PC. I can open it mechanically via the pinhole access. Once open I can play and record CDs and play DVDs normally. It closes normally.
Is this drive repairable, If so, where can I find procedures? If not repairable, is there a compatible substitute?

Drives are rarely repairable. There used to be a FAQ about it but I find folk unable to repair such drives today. Shop for a new one.

But first there was an OLD problem with Roxio that I should mention. Read about it at http://forums.support.roxio.com/topic/4923-cd-rws-wont-eject/

For me I found removing Roxio cured that.
