Dell desktop BIOS problems

A friend has a Dell desktop running Windows HP Home edition. When he tries to boot up, he gets a message that says it cannot find diskette drive and therefore will not boot. He cannot access the BIOS as the keyboard beeps when pressing F2. It sounds like the BIOS is corrupted but not sure how to repair it. We would appreciate any suggestions.

What keyboard was used. I run into this when the supplied Dell labeled keyboard wasn't used. Try a PS2 keyboard too.
