ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 Pro: driver update error

I am trying to install the updated driver kindly supplied by CNET. Everything went well until I tried the final file, the driver update itself. I then tried to uninstall then reinstall from the resource disks that came with my Dell Dimension 8300. I've had trouble reinstalling ATI before, so this was a last resort. The driver still won't update. The error message is:
"error installing iKernal.exec (0x10000)"
I know there is a way to overcome this, because I've done it in the past. I feel so brain dead now (we just moved, etc.), I really need some help.
I'm running XP Home SP 3. The ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 Pro came installed with my Dell in 2003. I have a Radeon 9800 graphics card, but that's about the extent of my comprehension. Any suggestions?
