Dell Vostro 1400 battery problem

Hi Dell people,
I just purchased a Dell Vostro 1400 around June 2008. I use it for studying, working, and the internet. I don't play games or use any intensive software.

Recently, a message has been popping up that says: "Your battery is reaching the end of its usable life. However, you may still continue to recharge it as usual." or something to this degree.

What do I do about this now? I know my warranty expired recently, but would that cover it? What's the best thing for me to do to get this problem solved?

You can remove the battery and use just the adapter. You won't have any mobility, but you'll save money. A battery replacement costs over $100-$200. Warranties do not cover batteries since they wear out, although Dell will replace less than one year old batteries. You can contact Dell and make sure you're not covered. Sometimes they will bend the rules a little since you are still in the last month.

hi mlg63,
thanks for ur quick reply. I followed ur suggestion n called dell. they said my warranty has been expired for last couple of weeks now, but they were willing to offer a discount if i wanted to buy a new battery. I said I would think about it and call them back and whenever I do, I will be offered that discount.

But, in general, it seems that even if u are under warranty, the best they can do is send a REFURBISHED battery to replace the defective one.

I should use it just plugged in all the time, but the problem is that the wire pops out pretty easily from the socket in the laptop...it comes out very easy...so i guess i have to get a battery soon...

anyways, thanks for ur help!
