Compatible hard drives

I have two lap tops ; one inspiron 1150 and one inspiron 640m. The LCD display on the 640 has cracked and my query is if I can move the hard drive from that to the 1150 ?
I read somewhere that the screws securing the drive in the respective caddies where dipped in super glue to avoid the drives shaking about. Is this true

I don't think it should be a problem. However, the hard drives must be the same type (IDE or SATA) and you may have to change the mounting hardware if it differs between the two laptops.

BEFORE you make the switch, you should go into the hardware settings to remove all the drivers in the device settings before powering down the final time. This will force the OS to install the generic Microsoft drivers when you boot up in the new laptop. THEN you can install the drivers from the new laptop with online updates.

Otherwise...you may not be able to boot Windows. I used this process when I replaced my generic motherboards. Worked every time!
