problem w/audio CDs in DVD/CD drived---system info
Yes, I think it's pretty odd too, and it's also made it hard to get any good advice to fix it! I have an Inspiron B130 from 8/06, running XP, and the drive is a Sony DVD+-RW model DW-Q58A. I was loading music CDs into my computer last winter and it went wonky mid-load. If you try to listen to a music CD, the sound is choppy and distorted. (I've tried it with iTunes, MusicMatch and Windows Media Player.) And if you try to upload music into the computer, it goes in, but the audio file also has distorted sound......it's like it's not running at a consistent speed. I tried a burn, which appeared to progress normally, but I ended up with a blank CD.
I've loaded CD-ROMs and they are fine, the software goes into the computer and is usable. I just watched a DVD the other day and no problem. It's just the audio/music stuff!! When this first happened, I bought a new drive (almost identical model, I think maybe the last letter was different) and it was the same thing, audio was still messed up. I even got one of those cases to use the drive externally thru USB hookup (in case the problem was in the connection inside laptop) and it STILL won't work! (But if I could get this fixed, I guess I'd have 2 drives and could do a direct burn, LOL!) So I figure it just has to be a driver/software problem, but my device manager says my drive is fine. I am just so frustrated with this!!! Everything else is good, but I'm tired of having to do all my music stuff on another computer. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
