Hi.

Just writing for the first time in the hope I can get some guidance to save me some time and/or money.

My TV as in the subject line just went out. The sound is working but all I have on the screen is a thin white vertical line going up the center, well slightly off center to be honest.

There have been, what I can only describe as some background shadows visible on the screen for a while, but now nothing. If I gently tap the screen it goes bright where I tap it and it looks like the back lights are all ok

After a bit of reading it seems a common fault is the tcon board, do you think this could be my issue taking the description into account?

Here it's a manufacturer's forum and you need a TV repair forum if you are beginning your TV repair career. Be sure to know where to get shop manuals and parts at sites like samsungparts.com, shopjimmy. and the other usual places like craigslist, ebay to find dead units with hard to find pieces

Hi there.

I'm a little confused when you say this is a Manufacturers forum, what does that mean exactly?

Additionally, you are correct, I am not a dedicated TV repair guy, but I am however a board level engineer. (Just not on TV's) I have managed to get the circuit diagram / shop manual and a list of possible suppliers.

Thx for the heads up toward eBay, I wouldn't have thought of that one.

Many replies are where the link is to arrange for service since these are not consider user serviceable. And about board repair. That's quite rare as no schematics are supplied. Even the service manuals I see rarely reveal much beyond the board interconnections today.

I'm a bit inside the PCB layers and chips too as I've been on design teams for a wide variety of gear. Fortunately, no TVs. If we ever met in public I would disavow I've ever been inside a TV. I learned long ago that once folk learn you fixed such, your garage is considered a place for them to bring over their dead (tvs and more.)
