We recently purchased a new Samsung double door refrigerator (model RS263TDWP). Both the refrigerator and freezer sections seem to work well and it keeps things very cold, but during the day we hear a very high pitched whine cycle on and off.
The noise is very annoying. The noise starts, continues for about 10 or 15 minutes and then stops until the next time it starts. If I open the refrigerator door the noise stops but, when I close it again, the noise restarts. Opening the freezer door has no affect on the noise. I am sure the noise occurs day and night but, during the night we are sleeping in another room so we no longer hear it.
We thought the problem was this one refrigerator and the noise was so annoying that we returned it and had another of the same model delivered. Unfortunately this model also had the same noise with the same on-off characteristics so I assume it is normal for this refrigerator model. My questions are -
1) Have other people heard and reported this noise?
2) What is it? and
3) Is it possible to eliminate it.
The noise is so annoying my wife wants to return this refrigerator and, since we have heard this noise from 2 refrigerators by Samsung, buy another manufacturer's refrigerator. Perhaps if it was possible to fix it we could keep the refrigerator we have.
We had a repair man come to listen but, since the noise cycles on and off, it was off when he arrived and he could not stay for the hour or so until it restarted so he could do nothing.
