Samsung volume not working due to headphone jack

We have a 32" 4 year old Samsung tv. Recently the sound would go in and out. We plugged in a headphone jack & wiggled it around and pulled it back out and the main sound would come back on. It was once in a while before. Now its all the time and much more difficult to get the sound to kick back in. Any tips? thanks!

Does that jack work? I can't find which TV this is but maybe the cheap fix is a sound bar?
