Samsung support for laptop

Can anyone advise on my legal position. My series 9 laptop would not boot - read about this problem on the Internet, something to do with a jack. Anyhow, it has been collected for repair. Their 3rd party says there is liquid damage and so not covered by warranty and want £85 ex vat for return or I pay minimum £500 for repair.

I was confident that it would be covered by warranty so am shocked at their response and now they will not return my laptop without paying their "minimum service charge" which I understood would be if I gave them the go ahead to repair it.

Advice?

And to save your files, I find putting the HDD into some USB case to be best. I connect that to my other PC and get the owner's files out.

It appears you don't do your own repair so the best plan is another laptop.

But any business has to pay its employees so there is usually a handling fee for out of warranty issues. If your files are not worth 85 bucks then you may be saving a few bucks. Here in the USA you have to pay to dispose of dead gear. I guess folk wonder why I give away dead things but I found it easier to put an item of freecycle.com than pay at the disposal counters.
