Hard Drive Capacity Limit on Samsung TVs

I called samsung sales supports before I made purchase of Samsung TV UN55D8000. I asked how much capacity of external hard drive will competible with this model. Samsung sales represantative replied, this model is works for upto 4TB capacity of external hard drive.

Samsung only supports upto 1.5TB of external hard drives. this is truth.

I purchased that model. and I use my iomega 500gb hard drive for almost a year now. I just brought 3TB hard drive - Seagate backup plus 3TB model # STCA3000101 which is not even recognised in TV.

I called 3 days ago to samsung and they said only upto 1.5TB will works with this model.

why this kinda big company sales representatives lies?

I find this area full of issues. USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible but as folk discover it's not always.

More at link. And try some USB 2.0 drives next. Why repeat what others are finding?

When i partition drive to 2TB on same Seagate hard drive, samsung tv recognise it on MBR mode.
that means I am loosing 1TB of data. this is same samsung drive USB 3.0. Got you mr. R. Proffitt Bob.
So whenever I post something on this web please dont post your stupid ideas.

1. First somebody from Samsung said it supported 4 TB
2. Later somebody else from Samsung said it supported only 1.5 TB
3. Now you proved it supports 2 TB
Nothing at all mentioned in the user manual?

It only seems an issue if you have more than 2 TB of movies . Do you?

Not everything works. USB 3.0 is fun to try but after putting such a drive back into some USB 2.0 case (that supported such a drive) I found it to work on a box that didn't work before.

All this can be upsetting to some folk. I wonder if we would be better off if they never allowed such externals in the first place but only units from the maker?
