Samsung forum: Can't Get Smart Remote to Control STB

I bought this from a CA retailer who buys from a certified wholesaler in Sacramento CA - the TV was made in Mexico, and I believe it is NOT a UK model. Model Code is UN65ES8000FXZA - Version is MH02, S/N Z5X03CZCB05747. Identical Model to the one Best Buy sells. So, you should be able to help me I hope if you are a Samsung tech.

There is nothing I can see that would indicate it was a Tv destined for the UK. All the trimmings, interfaces, etc. are for US Markets as far as I can tell. So, if I got sshafted by my retailer, how would I know it was for the UK not the US?

Pardon me then. It's always a hazard for me to have to guess based upon a partial model number, but I often to have to do so in order to get people where they need to go. No offense was meant.

So if you don't mind, I'd like for you check through this list of setup procedures to make sure that you've done everything on here: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=406139&modelname=UN65ES8000F&modelcode=UN65ES8000FXZA

In particular, make sure that you select the device you want to control. You can tell if you're attempting to control the STB if the red LED flashes whenever you press a button to try to control it.

I have actually gone through the set up multiple times (at least 12-13 at this point). I have selected the Dish VIP622DUODVR as the appropriate device - it is listed - and had selected Dish Network - SF-OAK-SJ Digital as my options, along with my zip code for Santa Rosa 95409. I get the confirmation screen that all is just peachy keen, and yes the red LED for STB on the remote lights up. The server has properly loaded the channels that I get on to the TV set, but I STILl can't control the satellite receiver.

I have also tried the other three similar receivers that come up on the menu - 622, VIP and VIP622 (without the DUEODVR) - same result. Thanks.

I woke up at 2AM a couple of nites ago, thinking, you know, I wonder if the remote address on the STB is set on the primary one, or did I change it previously due to interference with other IR devices.

Sure enough, I had set it to "4". I just reset it to "1" and IMMEDITELY the remote works. Just will take a while getting used to how the Smart Remote operates the functions of the STB remote.
