Samsung forum: Can I use the touchscreen on a Samsung 230TSn

I see how to install and calibrate this starting at page 51 but it might stress a new owner of a PC. That is, there's a lot to setup and many folk will no longer know what RS232 is.

My question is, should makers supply computer science classes on this sort of technology?

The pages in question in the manual are completly correct but they are only any use using the built in embeded pc, which already has the drivers and software installed, I have found the drivers and want to use the touchscreen on an external pc using the vga input but I don't know how to connect the touchscreen part to the external pc, usualy it would connect via rs232 or usb.

However I can see many pitfalls for the average PC owner. The RS232 for example was used in the past to talk to mice and more but imagine folk today trying to make this work.

I think this is a bit too much for most. Be sure to get support or return it. It looks like something that folk that build systems and video walls would use.

Well, it does have a transmit and receive signal but I fear that after watch folk struggle with this I can see why it's rarely offered anymore.

The place that sells these should have tech staff. But your post makes it sound as if, but I would be guessing.

All that code makes it too hard to pick out what you really wanted to write.

I do have experience with Embedded XP as well as RS232, embedded computers and more. But this system looks to be something from an OEM channel to folk that integrate such into their systems. A consumer might not want this device.

OK, the screen can be used in several ways, the first being : a built in pc, a dual core amd, with low end graphics and memory, just realy as a point of access, running windows xp embedded, the touch screen works with this connected internally via some sort of usb interface, the embedded pc also has 4 usb ports, a vga out and audio port.

The second is just a TV/Monitor via a HDMI port

The third and this is the one I want, is there is a 15 pin VGA in port where you can connect an external computer, but there is also a rs232 in port which I was under the imression that this was to control the touch screen when using the vga in, I was trying to find someone that had had experience with these monitors.

I have had such in the past but never " to control the touch screen ".

We did use touch screen outputs to the small PC that was in the KIOSK but I have to take your word that you want to control the screen in some way which is a bit confusing to me.

Back then these sorts of displays were just that so VGA would put an image on the display and the RS232 was hooked to a COM port and we would call it a mouse. I can't tell if you recall how this worked back then. And then is now well over 10 years ago. I can bet that today's users would never know how this worked.
