Samsung forum: wireless adapter alternatives for my samsung bd-e5300 bluray

Okay - I'm going to have to buy this adapter - I am hardware stupid - is this easy to do or am I going to have to pay someone to do this? All I want is to be able to get Pandora and Netflix on my new BluRay

While you know I'm a "M"oderater and am pretty advanced I think this unit is among the simplest units I've used. I did however set it up on my PC because I didn't want to take a chance that the browser in the TV would cough.

I have a BD-E5300 player. Based on your suggestion, I purchased the WIS12ABGNX wireless LAN adapter. I plugged it into the USB port and turned on the player. I still only see the "wired" option in the Settings, and it continues to show I do not have a valid internet connection. This Blu-Ray player was a gift from my daughter so I hate to return it. I hope you are correct that i can connect via wifi using this adapter, but I need additional instructions on how to set it up. I appreciate additional guidance from you on how to set this up.

1. The latest firmware.
2. The USB adapter in a specific port. (No, I didn't check the manual but it's a common issue I've run into on too many things.)

I hooked up onto the wired internet, downloaded the latest software version for the player and allowed it to upgrade and turn off. Then I unplugged the wired internet, plugged in the WIS12ABGNX usb wireless LAN adapter into the only USB port on the player. Nothing happened. So I went to Settings, and still only "wired" option existed. I am under the impression from the Samsung FAQ site that if it worked a pop-up message would appear "Do you want to make a wireless connection?". I reconnected to the wired ethernet and again checked for an upgrade and this time it said I already had the latest version.

Like BlackOps74, I think the specs on this player often confuse people into thinking it is wifi capable. So I am concluding that my option is to return the player and by one that has built-in wifi capability.

I am not tech support but wanted to share my experiences with far too many devices.

Just want to clarify that you did not upset me. I am just glad that through this discussion the facts finally became clear as everyone was trying to find the correct answer. There is a lot of misleading information out there. I did a google search on the BD-E5300 and found numerous links such as: "Blu-ray Player with Built-In WiFi | Samsung BD-E5300www.samsung.com/us/video/blu-ray-dvd/BD-E5300/ZA" , "Samsung BD E5300 Blu-Ray Player, Wi-Fi Ready | Full Compass", and "Samsung BD-E5300 Blu-Ray Player Full HD Internet DVD Wi-Fi DivX 1080P HDTV".

As you correctly point out later in this thread, the best answer on the Samsung support site for the question of connecting to wifi with is player is a simple "No".

The Samsung support site for this player only states that the WIS09ABGNX wireless adapter will work with this player: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00031755&fm_seq=31923

I have tried the WIS12ABGNX without success. The WIS09ABGNX costs nearly as much as the player, so I am returning the player.

Pardon me! I was wrong. After talking extensively with the product specialist, we determined that this model only supports wired connections, not Wi-Fi. Every other Blu-ray model does support Wi-Fi; however, this one doesn't since it's the entry level model.

I have assurance though that any model of Blu-ray player higher than the BD-E5300 will support Wi-Fi, though. I apologize for the confusion. If you have any problems returning the Linkstick, let me know.

The word "All" was indeed dropped but folk may not read far enough to catch the exceptions noted.

In my opinion the question is not being answered correctly. It should be a simple "No."

Thanks for the apology. Glad the correct answer has been reached and also that the Samsung support site will get corrected. I have found a suitable room for the player so I do not need to return it and I do not expect any problem returning the wireless LAN adapter. All's good.

So my best option is to NOT buy the connector and take it back for one that WILL work with wireless? Is that what I am reading?

Does BD-E5300 support allshare or not? Samsung websites say it does, and the manual says it does too, but I can't discover it from my PC using allshare 2.1.0.12031_10 for PC. Firmware has been updated to 1009.2 but no difference.

So I just need clarification and confirmation whether it really supports allshare or not, and what kind of allshare if it does, and if possible to guide me how to make it work.

I can access internet (Youtube etc) from it so internet/network connection is not the issue I believe.
