white dots on Samsung 61" TV

We purchased the 61" Samsung HL61A750 61-Inch 1080p LED Powered DLP HDTV TV in October 2008 for $1570. It had a nice enough picture and we enjoyed it until a few weeks ago. (I have poor vision and a severe hearing loss so the large screen and a pair of special headphones made my viewing much more enjoyable.)

A couple of months ago, white dots started appearing on the screen. Repair will cost hundreds of dollars. Similar TVs were recalled but this one was not on the list that we could find.

I spoke for 2 hours to a Samsung rep in their online chat. He told me "TV internal part might be defective". He also said "Samsung TV life time will be 60,000 hours of viewing" and that "Samsung determined that only specific models exhibited a slightly higher-than-normal failure rate. Although your TV has similar symptoms, research indicates that this is due to normal wear and tear."

I was escalated to ECR dept but heard nothing further from them. He did not say but I later read that ECR is Executive Customer Relations.

I am in a quandary as the cost of the repair is so high.

Comments? Suggestions? All appreciated.
