My bluray player won't connect to the Internet anymore!

I have a Samsung BD D5300 player and was informed that I require an upgrade to watch a disc I've just bought. When I tried to connect to the Internet it isn't having it!
I'm connected through an Ethernet cable, as is my Xbox which works fine, and I've updated my firmware before with no trouble but now. Nothing.
I've even tried inputting my IP address taken from the ipconfig prompt manually and nothing!

When the internet update fails.

I look at update via USB and CD media.

But frankly, why are consumers putting up with this? The very idea that we have to update players to play media is quite an aberration and I find many are skipping BluRay for this reason.
