Samsung forum: Internet TV locks me out of router, why

Sorry but unless there are more details I have to call the router out. I'm just someone that write router code years ago and has a few too many bum router incidents.

Cheers Bob. The only thing I can add is what I do to fix the problem all be it temparary. I click on the signal strength icon in the notification bar and then right click on my router in list. This opens the security tab. In that there are three box's. One for my passkey, one for the security (wap, wep) and one with some letters in it. These are the ones I change to any on the drop down list then click apply. The router then has a RED X next to its name. I then go back and put correct setting in and passkey. It then all works till next time I use the TV.
I will get a new router next week when I am off night shift and got time. I will then come back and let you all know the outcome. Thanks for checking the post.

I am sorry but I agree completely with Bob on this if your router is set to WAP encryption then you seriously need to think about Binning it for total security your router need to be set to WAP2-PSK with AES encryption

as Bob has said previously anything less and you might as-well invite the Street in....

WPA is little longer and takes a 70 buck thing and maybe a little longer and I'm in.

It appears your WiFi is not secure so why not secure it today?

I dont know how everyone thinks my router is not secure, I have never said it was not. In my original post I asked about the TV causing the router to lock me off the internet. I then went on to say that I alter some settings in the router seurity box which I get into from the icon in the notification bar. I believe my security on the router is set to more than the basic security measure which there are about four different types in the router settings list. I dont see how a unsecure router would be the cause of not being able to access the internet after only the TV had used it anyway.

You didn't tell and have not supplied details.

I know most do not want to deal with all this. If so, just call out the geek squad and let them at it.

I have really told you all I know unless there is something I have missed out then can you put down in words what you want and I will try to let you know.

As I read the above I see only what you have elected to share. No router details so I can't see if this model has some odd issue. I see a passing up of supplying what the security is as well.

Your choice since this is your discussion.

But maybe you need to know these are discussion forums and not tech support. For tech support you may want to use Samsung's 1800 line and companies like best buy?

Some forget that since it's your discussion you set the pace and share only what you want.

I know what you are saying Bob, and that is why I thought I would use a forum instead of the support that comes from Samsung. As you know people in any forum usually have collected a lot more in work arounds than the official sites.
My router is a Netgear DG834g v4 with updated firmware which I did just over one year ago. Since then it has just sat on the phone table doing its job.
I use WPA-PSK and have changed the logon details from the original Admin/password ones. I tried to use the WPA 802.1 but the computer would not recognise it. The mode is set for "g and b".
Hope this helps a bit more for everyone.

WPA, WEP is not secure. I'll look around the dg834 to see if anyone has reported odd losses of settings but at least we know it's not secured so I can't dismiss the router yet.

Be back by tomorrow and I'll see what my friends say as well as the usual google.

I consider this model to be ill suited to streaming video today. It looks like it's not up to the task.

It could still be your choice of no security.

I would have moved the settings to what we write about in the CNET Networking forum first. In short that's the latest firmware, the router defaults except for the essential changes to get on the internet then for a test run disable WiFi and get wired for the test run. This side steps all the WiFi nonsense.

When that test is done then we can look again as a secure WiFi as noted in the CNET Networking forum which is in short WPA2 AES personal security with WPS disabled.

I have got my problem sorted out. I did buy a new wireless modem router, a Belkin N600 DB. After putting that into play I lost ALL my internet connection. So after doing all the checks and changing setting and calling Belkin support I got nowhere. So last night at work I was pondering my predicament. I made up a list of things to do and check starting at square one. I first checked that no one else was using the same channel as me which no one was. The second thing I did was to connect straight to the master socket inside my telephone box on the wall. That was it everything worked. 15 mbs download. The tv works ok and does not lock me out. I can even use my mobil to alter the tv, not that I need to but its fun. So now I just need to get a new box for in the house and change that over, so I might aswell get a pre filtered one.

This sounds as if there are telephone wiring issues from that box to the DSL router.

Those issues kill folk as nothing seems to work well. HOWEVER I want to comment a little about the Belkin.

DSL setup seems to be too rough on the support, owner and others. Commissioning or configuring the DSL is not easy enough in my opinion.

They speed seems to be stable now over the last couple days. I have done the speed checkes with "speedtest" web site and its staying at 15 mbs.

Nice to read that DSL can do the job. Here in the US most DSL is that 0.6 mbs stuff and folk complain about Netflix.
