I just started reading all these posts about the white dots and TV not turning on. Unfortunately I have both problems. We spoke to Samsung customer service last night the rep on the phone said it would be repaired free of charge. Today a tech calls and confirms our appt for Saturday but says that it's out of warranty and we will charged. The tech is telling us it's the light bulb. We replaced the bulb in November, 2011 so I don't think it's the bulb because why does the TV try to turn on and we see lights and it keeps clicking but never turns also to turn it off completely we have to unplug it. My TV is an HLT6176sx/xaa. I don't think an expensive TV such as this should only last a few years. I'm very disappointed.

the transaction # is 4115131153. I have some new information to add. I contacted the place where I bought the light bulb and he said that the lamp may have gone and that I have a one year warranty. It is also possible the TV has damaged the lamp. Samsung has had lots of issues with their ballasts going bad because of some bad power supply capacitors. When this happens it shortens the life of the lamp dramatically.

I'm am really really upset now! WE have done everythng on our end to try resolve the issue. We sent our burned out bulb back to the place we bought it from and after investigating how it was burned out it was determined that it was caused by the TV and the defective capacitors a FACT that Samsung is denying. Our tech guy for the bulb said if you put another bulb in and you don't have the capacitors replaced it will just burn out again. He said our TV was on the list for the capacitor issue and now Samsung is denying that. Why should I have to pay for something that was a well known defect from the start? You already know you have to replace a chip because of the white dots on my screen so what is the problem? Well happy birthday to me I guess my birthday gift was just a piece of crap a $5000 piece of crap!

Are you sure about that model #

http://www.samsung.com/us/capacitorsettlement/ shows a similar model and a human might get the numbers wrong and think it was on that list or you supplied the wrong number or I can't match the numbers.

I can discuss BAD CAPS while asleep it seems as I've seen such in about all things by now. The BAD CAPS story is easy to find on google with millions of dead Dells and now in far too many other things like TVs and more.

The horrible truth is that it is far outside the warranty so your next question should be (well, mine is!) -> Why are the warranties only 1 year?

Then they shouldn't charge so much for a TV if they only offer a 1 year warranty. I have a few TV's that are probably 10 or more years old never had a problem with them never been serviced, but this TV that I got as a gift nothing but issues. It's very disappointing.

Most are 5 year designs. I've written about this in the past about various components with 5 year life spans. Now you see the costs come down (yes they did) and we can discuss how warranty and life spans do drive up the costs.

I fear no one will pay for a 10 year TV today.
