Does Gio switch automatically to strongest Internet signal?

My phone company is charging me for Internet use, while actually I have free wifi at home from another company.

The phone company representative claims that this is because my phone (Gio GT-S5660) switches automatically to the strongest signal - which at home apparently is the signal of my paid phone company, not the free wifi.

I find this hard to believe. Has anyone else experienced this, and is it possible to prevent this by e.g. blocking this automatic switching with settings on my phone?

I have to manually turn off the cellular network to force it to use wifi. I've yet to find an automatic setting that avoids use of data over cellular.

Maybe "use only 2G networks" can help prevent this

Thanx Bob. I also asked around and one of my friends suggested me to tick "use only 2G networks" (in Mobile network settings) to avoid use of data over cellular.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2G and other web articles show data moving over 2G. Since we can't be sure if the setting really locks out data, you'll have to test it.
