Hi Everyone, i am new to the forum so i do not know if this has been discussed on not.
I recently purchased a Samsung D490 "51" 3D TV, its less than 2weeks old. The picture is great, but after purchasing the set, the following day i noticed a burn in image of the Samsung Logo on the top right corner.
The TV was the last one the store had, hence it was been used for display and i noticed they were running the Samsung 3D Demo CD the entire day, hence were the burn in of the logo occurred.
The logo is mainly visible during bright displays, say a white background(explosions), but not visible during a dark background. I have run the scrolling found under screen burn protection for a couple of hours, but to no visible difference, the logo still remains.
I tried returning the TV to the store, but they do not have another one to replace it with. The gap left by the one i purchased is still empty.
The TV is still under warranty and wanted to know does Samsung cover this,as the problem was not caused by me, i take it to the Samsung repair center.

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation, but image retention isn't covered under your warranty because it's caused by improper usage. I realize that it wasn't your usage that caused the damage, but who caused the damage does affect the warranty claims. Your only recourse is through the retailer, and I realize that you've already explored that option, but it remains your only recourse.
Now if you want to settle for the image retention, here's how to reduce its effects. The pixel scrolling feature is a function built into Samsung plasma TVs that can reduce or remove the effects of screen burn-in/image retention. The pixel scrolling function removes after-images from the screen by attempting to return all individual pixels to their base-line intensity. It does this by displaying alternating intensities of white and black, from white to gray to black.
Use this function to help alleviate the effects of any image retention due to broadcast tickers, logos, 4:3 standard programs, static images, game HUDs, ect.
Using the pixel scrolling feature:
Press the menu button with the TV turned on. [The Menu appears]
Press enter on the highlighted picture menu. [The Picture Menu pops-up]
Press the Up or Down arrow to scroll and highlight "Picture Options". Press enter. [The Picture Options Menu Appears]
Press the Up or Down arrow to scroll and highlight "Screen Burn Protection". [The Screen Burn Protection Menu Appears]
Highlight "Scrolling" or "Pixel scrolling". [This changes based on model year.]
Press enter. [Scrolling starts]
Hit any button on the remote to exit the Scrolling Mode.
Often the instruction above can significantly improve image retention problems. So I hope this above is helpful to you. And I wish you well.
