DLP tv has cracking sound and becomes silence

Hi HD-Tech,

If you still around, please advice me.

My HLS5086WX/XAA started developing this problem.

When started in the morning (or after long OFF time), sound will be normal. After watching sometime, a slow rate of cracking starts. If remain ON, the cracking rate will increase as well as sound of cracking will go up (like burst of fire crackers) and will go silence. Picture will be normal without Sound.

What can be done with this TV?

1. Call in and see if they have some deal or arrange for service.

2. Try some TV repair forum but I find most don't have the electronics background and no access to the tech support documents (I know I don't but I don't want to be a TV repair person today!)

I want to see HD Tech's opinion on this or else I will be the service man for this problem. Last option is to FreeCycle if anyone else wants to learn on my TV.

Hey Closeups,

Really sorry to hear about this. And I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but Bob's right. It's time to setup service if you want to keep the DLP. But honestly, it sounds electrical based upon the behavior you're describing. I could speculate what the root cause might be, but I'd be shooting at targets at 1000 yards in the dark.

So to be on the safe side, if you want to keep it around, unplug it and setup service.

Thanks for the response,

Reading Samsung DLP forum, I see many customer experienced the same problem. Based on that I would think this is a quality issue with DLP and think Samsung could help to resolve the problem without costing customers. This is not that old TV, I bought in Dec-2006 and experienced 3-problems. Two of them are corrected by Samsung. (My prior Sony TV lasted for more than 2-decads without single problem).

So, based on quality issue and Samsung being world electronic company, it can do lot more keep the good name around.

Any thoughts?
