Thanks. While I haven't heard of this issue before, there's a first for everything when technology is concerned. So have you tried the self diagnostic feature on page 61 of the user manual? A good number of errors often get fixed by this process. In any case, please let me know the outcome.

Hi, I just followed the instructions. It displayed a test pattern and asked me if the problem still existed. It did. I selected "yes", and was told to contact Samsung technical support...

Since the TV is about 3 years old, how much does a service visit cost? I see that I can buy that size of TV now for about $500, and it will be better to boot. Is it worth to have it repaired? ARe all Samsung TVs obsolete after 3 years?

Just yesterday I noticed that a light twist of the screen, or a slight bump leads to a temporary fix. In some cases just a light tap with my finger was necessary to fix it. It will stay OK for a few minutes than go bad again. After about half an hour or so it usually stabilizes. This tells me that it is some sort of loose contact. What could that be?

I'd like to be able to give you an estimate on how much the service might cost, but unfortunately, I can't for two reasons. First, Samsung merely recommends the nearest Authorized Service Center. We don't actually own them. So their rates are dependent on what they want to do. Second, we don't actually know which part is the problem until a technician with hands on does some checking. So while I can tell you that you can find parts at SamsungParts.com to fix it yourself, I can't tell you which part to buy. So all that to say, I don't know because I can't know.

On the buying versus repairing question, that's up to you, but I'd recommend at least talking to a service center first so you can compare the cost directly.

On your troubleshooting with the hardware via physical contact, I don't dare speculate without touching it myself. So while I admire and share your curiosity, I'll have to pass on making a guess as to the cause.
