Samsung forum: Samsung LCD won't display DVD player or netflix streaming

Yes! That works. Still can't get Netflix streaming video (perhaps thats a different issue?). How do I get this to play through the HDMI cable???

With the video that works, you have to fish around the dvd menus to see how to switch the player to HDMI output.

I can't be specific as the dvd make/model eludes us.

Sorry, Bob. The problem started with a brand new Samsung DVD player that I bought just two weeks ago. I thought that I got a lemon and that's why it wouldn't display. However, now I have a Panasonic Blu-Ray DMP-BD871. I did go through the HDMI output menu and selected every possible output mode (including 720p which is what the TiVo is set to) and they all said my TV does not support that resolution. Even when I selected the "Auto Select" output mode, it did not work. I don't understand how the Xbox can work in that port and the DVD player does not. Thank you for responding, by the way!

To me it tells me the players have something going on. To really nail it to the TV I'd have to try these on another HDTV via HDMI.

The player displays on another HDTV which was a Panasonic LDC displaying at 720p. So I definitely think it is my TV. I don't know if it's the port (again, the Xbox works fine in that port) or the settings. I feel like I have reset everything I can possibly reset. Any ideas?

I honestly don't know when the firmware was last updated. Our netflix streaming runs through the TiVo and not an App. Will updating the firmware possibly solve the Blu-Ray player issue if it is out of date?

According to the Samsung website, there are no firmware downloads for this model. It is 5 years old and may even be too old to require firmware updates? Ugh.

So this means 2 things don't work on the HDMI ports (any port.)

The HDMI chipset is from Intel from what I've seen and they can go bad and create issues like this. It's a shame they don't just fail but the BD/DVD and Tivo mandate HDCP so that part of the chip can differ from the 360.

There is no firmware involved with that chip so it's a call to Samsung and "get an estimate."

I had hope that it was the player or cables as it has been in the past. That is, a buddy was chanting over and over "it's not the hdmi cable" but I brought over one anyway and the chanting changed as it did work. Next thing I know he's over at his bench trying to figure out why the cable mattered.

I ducked out at that point.

Sorry for the multiple replies, but I thought this may help. The information display on the TV registers the TiVo and the Xbox resolution as 1280x720. However, it keeps registering the DVD player as 720x480. Even though I have tried to change the HDMI resolution output via the DVD player settings, it won't change.

And let's hope this is not being passed through any HT system or HDMI switch thing.

It does not go through a theater system. It annoys me the DVD player worked for a week and now it doesn't. I will put a call into Samsung. Things just don't last very long anymore, I guess. Truly grateful for your time, Bob. If I could buy you dinner, I would.
