I have got the airplay working by resetting the microprocessor on the marantz and reconfiguring the whole thing. 3D is also going on the TV again. It was a stupid (embarassing) battery problem - amazingly the batteries ran out on both pairs of glasses at exactly the same time so I had ruled that out since it didnt work with either pair. duh..

Im still left with the ARC and AnyNet not working. I have posted something on the Marantz support pages, but that seems to be 'unmanned'.

When I look at the anynet devices on the samsung, I can see the pioneer bluray player (which is connected through the marantz receiver) but i cannot see the Marantz reveiver itself. It fails to connect when I tell the samsung to reset its anynet devices and the receiver shows as OFF. Turning it on just fails after a little while.

Previously I could see and control the receiver via the samsung and its remote, and it showed up as a source (hdmi-cec on hdmi2 of the Tv) - so selecting it as input was a simple matter of selecting TV on the marantz. Now selecting TV - nothing happens.

What is the relationship between ARC and Anynet ? You say that anynet only worked accidentally on the Marantz, but ARC is a standard isnt it? Shouldn't the sound be able to pass through the ARC HDMI table to the receiver , and how would you make that happen if anyNet isnt working - how would I tell the samsung that it should direct sound through the ARC and how would i select the TV as a source whilst still remaining on HDMI2 as the source ? Im confused..

But here's my best shot.

As far as the relationship between ARC and AnyNet, AnyNet is Samsung's special flavor of CEC-HDMI. By special flavor, I mean that AnyNet is meant to work with other Samsung products, and that's all. When it works with other products besides Samsung products, it's a happy accident.

But to do what you want to do with the audio, I suggest you get a specialized remote to be able to handle multiple devices.

ARC is just a subset set of the HDMI-CEC specifications. That's all.

Thank you. I'll try the UK site, but they seem to be email focused.

btw I did receive and update to both the samsung and the marantz software ( i had the disconnected from the internet for a while, so I when i reconnected they both got updated).

It is since then that this wonderful compatability broke. Wonder if there is any way to go backwards a software revision...?
