Samung TV Model D6000 46" not detecting External HDD

I recently purchased Samusng D6000 46" TV and the other day I connected one of my friend's 320 GB Seagate External HDD. However my TV was not recognizing the HDD. The same HDD was being recognised by my Destop PC which had windows XP.

I read couple of threads here which discuss about the same topic.

Also I plan to purchase a 2 TB external HDD pretty soon so I was just checking if I need to buy any specific make or size or brand?

How many partitions on the drive, and what file system (FAT32, NTFS) on each of them?
What are the requirements for partitions and file systems for the TV (see the user manual)?

Well it was my friend's HDD so I didn't have much time to check on that.
Only reason why I'm asking this here is coz I plan to buy a 2 TB External HDD so want to be sure that I don't purchase a model which doesn't support my TV.
Also in the thread I saw Samung guy mentioning about a thread which gives details on the various HDD's that currently support the Samsung TV's.

andyrocks78,

Thanks for your question. Just to clarify is supported on this model (UN46D6000SF):
- FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS
- Only USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) devices

Now what is specifically not supported:
- USB devices that have their own driver CDs and require you to install these drivers.
- A device requiring high power (more than 500mA or 5V)
- MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)

Thanks for your reply. I remember in one of the threads you had mentioned about having a list of the supported HDD which you have in the first page of the Samsung forum.
Can you please give me that link.
Also what is MTP? If I buy a HDD which has external power source will that work?

Ok guys hope someone helps. Finally bought WD Elements 1 TB External HDD.
The TV is unable to detect it. Any suggestions?
Do I need to format it? Should I partition it?

Ok guys able to figure out the problem I was connecting the HDD through a USB extender cable hence it was not detecting.
Now when I connected it directly it was able to detect. Since it will be inconvenient to everytime connect it to the back of the TV is there anyway I can have this connected using the USB extender with the HDD being detected?

That actually surprises me. You sure the cable isn't damaged in some way. Has this cable worked while connecting up other devices before?

Yes when I connect the USB Extension cable to other devices it's working fine. I have connected a 16GB Pen drive to this extension and it worked fine.

Also the cable is not even 1 meter long.
Any other suggestions?
