Samsung forum: How can I change size/style of .srt subtitles (UE32D5500)

is it even possible not to f**k up the quality of the movie while hardsubing ? I am using EM total ideo converter, it changes 1,6gb mkv to 1,1gb mkv even though I try to set everything on same as input (so I dunno why the size changes). Any converter that focuses just on the hardsubing (preferably both .avi and .mkv files as those I usually download) and won't make my video blurry ?
I just don't wanna decide between better readable subtitles vs. better video quality... Can't we have both ?

The movie is however encoded in a lossy method so any transcode ... Maybe we can skip coding talk since that's been done to death?

But your last question is good. The answer is sure, use a PC or other media player box that has more capability.

So I should accept the fact that the TV itself is incredibly stupid and I have to connect it and command it through some cheap computer nearby / notebook / my new HTC.

Try this. Go back 2 years in HDTV and see that they had just issued the first sets with Apps and not much else.

These TV makers (sorry if they take offense at this) are beginners in this area and are only recently realizing folk are comparing what we do on a PC to the HDTV.

So that's going to take awhile for them to catch up.

I wish they would just get out of the app business all together. Concentrate on what they do best and just give us a extra HDMI for us to hook our puters to and leave it at that.

So my HTC plays movies without any problems, subtitles size fully customizable. Can I connect it through wifi with my TV ? or is that possible only through HDMI ?

Maybe that's a fix. But here I went with a media player.

I found app called Skifta. Do you think this could work ? It should stream videos from my phone directly to TV. The only problem is that I dont have wifi or any other internet access set up on the TV and have no idea how

oh I see I need some adapter for the wifi, it cant even use wifi on its own... dumb tv

sorry to hijack your topic but seems it's more alive than others and close to my problem:)
got Samsung LED TV40D5500 and Samsung Bluray player. MKV files that i know for sure have subtitles wouldn't display on the TV set when i try to play them from USB.
i've red tons of discussions on that topic and most common advice was extract the subtitles from the mkv container, save it as the srt file with the same name as the movie and save it in the same folder. Didn't work for me unfortunately. When i stick it in the TV usb slot - subtitles otion is still unavailable in the menue. When i stick it into Bluray player - it's slightly better, at least Suptitles option is not greyed out, but still there is nothing to choose from. Subtitles are set on "Auto", so if it would recognise it it would have to play them automatically, wouldn't it? i have even removed all other subtitles from the mkv container and left only one that i need to prevent confusion of the bloody thing, but to no avail. I can't connect it to my PC as it's in another room, so i've decided to go with some external media player box.... which one would suite best without being extortionally expensive? thanks

What I'm looking at? Logitech Revue and looking at the Sony Google TV or the Boxee.

But the sub issue while deeply discussed has another issue. PCs and the players are very forgiving as to the content of the SRT.

My story is about where I helped out someone with this and found an invalid line in the SRT which the member responded with "No, the PC plays it fine." I guess they didn't want to solve it, they just wanted it to work even if the SRT had an error.

i've been trying to defeat this stuff long enough to understand that what you see on PC doesn't necessarily (and most unlikely even) mean that it'll work on the TV or Blueray player...

i must admit im not that deep into it:) i've tried to screw three different movies from three different sources and for all of them SRT file wasn't visible on TV at all and it wasn't available to choose from Blueray player. So even if i'd thought that srt file was at fault for one movie it can't possibly be true for all three.... so, i've given up and watch it on my PC.... what a waste of 400 quid for the TV:).. I've looked up those three things you've mentioned and none of them look favorable to me Both Logitech and Sony google were widely critisised in the reviews for different reasons and Boxee though sounds rosy for UK resident still far too expensive for my liking. besides it's focuses on online content and more comprehensive stuff whereas i need a simple box which would allow me to see bloody subtitles from the movie i got somewhereelse:)... ideally it'd be a PC standing next to the TV but it's not practical, really:)

It's no PC when it comes to playing "anything you throw at it." There are limits to 99 USD buck boxes.

There are other SRT file "verifiers" that I would try but as I wrote, it's not worth it to me to write much about this. Most owners are not going to examine the SRT or try the AVI trick. They want toast from toasters it seems.
