HW- E450 soundbar hookup question?

Thinking of getting this soundbar to add to my 55D8000 tv. I also have a Sony 3D Bluray player and Uverse cable. Everything now is hooked up with 1.4 HDMI. If I add this sound bar should I use ARC on the tv or just leave connections as is, and connect via Optical cable? Will I still get sound from bluray if I just add in optical connection since its plugged in to tv via HDMI? What about volume control and on/off functions using both setups? Please help me understand?

Always try HDMI and ARC first.

If you are lucky it works. If not, look at the manual and notice that on average there are 5 or more ways to hook things up. This is why I think the industry is a mess. So many standards and folk may not want to try 5 hookup systems. But this is where we are.

Try HDMI, if not, then optical. And if you are an installer you learn fast to carry spare optical and HDMI cables with you.
