After watching folk lose months fiddling with getting their PC to play BD on HDTV (I don't volunteer since I want to measure how long it takes some folk to figure this out on their own) I think the cheap exit with the best results is the common BD player and some USB DVDRW drive for your slate.

if i play a bd i just play it on the slate and either stream to the tv if at home or use the micro HDMI.... i'm not looking for a stand alone at all....

you are saying the piece is not working on PC either or people strugle to use it in straight connection to their tv/monitors???

plus my original question was more since i have only one USB port would it work with a USB hub plugged to that single port or it wouldn't get enough juice that way...??? cause if it's not working it answers all the other questions

Many do this and then get very upset about BD copy protection that can extend to the point the PC/Tablet/thing will not display BD content on the HDTV.

I find it easier for folk to learn this first hand as they may want deep, long explanations why the industry did this and more.

One of the consumer unfriendly HDCP (see google) rules that if content can be rendered at some point, any pass through shall be downgraded to stereo or standard definition. Some find this unbelievable and have to try it themselves.

Given the price of what I see a BD/DVD and software, or a BD PLAYER and a DVD player and software bundles I see no cost savings for the BD/DVD USB drive. And we know there are issues in getting the slate+USB-BD/DVD+HDTV to sing and dance.

Avoiding this lesson is cheap. But then again, you may want to learn what others have learned and love fiddly things.

thx for the info.... even though if there is a way i'd find it to make it work..... you are right the need i have for it doesn't justify the price or the hassle... nobody heard about software going BD right ???? cause the main reason i need a disc drive is to read my office or other software install disc....

The issue with BD is the usual Video BD resulting in HDMI only connections along with the HDCP rules. There are few BD titles that have no HDCP so for this discussion I'll go without diverging into other than HDMI/HDCP issues and restrictions.

And since almost all install CD/DVDs will work fine, there is no issue I know of there save the ones you know of.

My choice would be to get the usual USB DVDRW for much less than 50 and then some BD Player for my HDTV.

that's what i plan to do

but you are telling me that video BD would have issue to play on my PC because it's plugged in USB?? did i get that right....

or i'm missing something?

That's where the issue is (from PC to HDTV) and since it's this model at http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/tablet-pcs/XE700T1A-A03US I begin to see what others have done and warned you about the issues.

Playing on this slate "should be" fine and checking the above I see I did repeat many times about the HDTV play. Play on the slate "should be" fine.

The USB connection is not at issue here since it does not have HDCP issues.

i'm asking a lot of repetitive question... sorry

I have never dealt with BD....

what i don't get is right now i already have my slate hooked up to the HDTV (which is a sami too btw, not sure if that matters)

right now i either use my XBox and media center to play on the tv
or i hook up the slate to the tv and use it as dual or switched display with the a hdmi cable....or i hook it up to my harman kardon audio video receiver in hdmi and itself is hooked up in hdmi to the tv....

i have no display issue so far... i just found it weird if it works as a monitor right now how it would single out a bd video played on say vlc or media player in a windows in the middle of my desktop.... i thought dhcp was non selective within a single video signal is it not???

DHCP has rules. I covered this above and you are right about what you are seeing and this is EXACTLY why folk think it will work.

I've covered it can be a trap, warned you off but know that most people must try it to be sure.

Why not do this and learn it first hand? At least you have the edge here to know what's going on if it fails?

i'll go with the dvd rw solution....

i don't foresee any real future for the bd format in the first place
i was looking at it since it's pretty cheap to get a combo writer now.... but i don't have the need, i just like to have option...

but like you said it's tempting to get in to find a fix... i'll wait to come across it at a friends or something
