What would cause an mp3 player to skip?

I had a Samsung YP-T9J and the songs would skip occasionally and I recently bought another mp3 player(different brand) and it never skips. I was thinking it was to do with the songs but they work fine on the new mp3 player. They are both flash based mp3 players. I am just curious as to why the samsung mp3 player would skip, could it be to do with it being old or do some flash mp3 players skip?

I've tinkered with this over the years and it's amazing how we can choose bit rate and VBR or CBR encoding to trip up some players.

What do you think about a new standard that dictates all content be just so (or else?)

Agreed, although I would think it has to do with encoding the files or using an unsupported bit-rate. (Or a case pressing the FF>> button, maybe? Hypersensitive button somewhere?) The supported file options are quite a large selection - more than most players, and I've spent years jogging with Samsung mp3 players. I've never had that happen, nor have I seen similar reports on this, so suffice to say that this symptom is pretty rare.

Fluke files? Bad player? Hard to say.
