Samsung GIO: receiving SMS problem

I have a Samsung GIO(GT-S5660). Android 2.3.3.
Sometimes (have found no relation with anything) when someone sends me a short text message (SMS), I do not get notified by my phone, and cannot see the message if I go into the Message application (yellow envelope). However, if I go into the Message Application and then toSettings, then go to 'Manage SIM card Messages' I can see and read those messages that have not been notigied to me.This is very annoying because I need to go and check in that place if I have any messages. Sometimes weeks go by without this problem, sometimes 5 messages a day get stuck on the SIM card. What has already help was a complete hard reset of the phone, but a few days later it comes back again.This problem could make me change phone as I tend to loose reactivenessin my job because of no notification of SMS. A pitty, as i find it very good for the rest.
Any ideas/suggestions/support are welcome. Thank you

I'd go back to the cellular provider

Stopping the "Messages" application

I have done the following ;
- go to Applications and I "force stopped' the Messages application
- turn off phone
- turn on phone
I have done 2 tests and I correctly receive and am notified of SMS.

not showing contact name or Number

I have a Samsung Star II Duos C6712. It does not show any contact name or number when sms is received. It was working properly but this problem started since last 4 days after updating my mobile software through Samsung Kies. Please provide solution foe the same.

Does not appear to be a Samsung bug?

I read http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4991 and it's still there.

Since this is an Android bug you have to accept it or change to another OS for these Smart Phones and hope you find a bug free Smart Phone.

Thanks, taht's a very long thread, but although i did not get 'low memory' messages, i can understand some influences of memory and storage on SMS. I will move a few applications from internal memory to SD storage

But there are other bugs about the Google SMS app and the Android OS. I only provided the first one I found in the bug list.

It does bring up a good question which I'll toss out as follows.

"Do you think the maker of the product should correct flaws in components they selected to build their product?"

That is, if Samsung uses Android and there is an Android bug, should Samsung correct the bug?

problem is back

As the problem reappeared even when 93Mb of free meme in the internal RAM - i brought back the phone to the selling point and they have now sent the phone for "repair"to Samsung. the only thing I can imagine is Samsung do in some kind of firmware reset/upgrade...or give me a new phone; how can they repair something of that price...
meanwhile I bought a cheap Nokia to continue phoning and texting... what a disaster phone...

Memory is the problem

I now keep my phone internal memory >90mB free and problem is gone. If I go down to 80mb of free mem, problem comes back... a real shame for Android !

We know you may not get the low memory message and still miss that SMS. Let me check my HTC Evo 4G which is on 2.3.5.

I see 121MB used and 253MB free. It is likely you may want to check this and try keeping a lot of RAM free. Here I do this the old fashioned way. I uninstall any app I don't use and rarely have any of those AD SUPPORTED apps installed.

I think the GIO has 278MB RAM so even with my setup I would have about 157MB free which is 50% more than the levels we see this issue at.

Again, some think they must see the low memory message but what if there is not enough memory to do that?

my GIO has 181 Mb of RAM. and I have 99Mb used, 82mb Free.

Putting a new SIM card did not solve the problem, so I'll now remove apps to get to 100mb of free mem.
It is a pain that I cannot choose which apps to put on SD card.. where i have 1gb free...
