Samsung forum: Samsung PN63C8000 burn mark on white screen problem

Thanks for the quick reply...but that purple tint box (4:3 screen size) applied to all the HDMI channel (input) 1, 2 and 3 for cable, blue-ray player and DVD player....and also on the RGB input.

I have plugged in a computer/netbook and picked the WHITE background on the window XP and see the different. And it has the same purple tinting at the 4:3 screen size area.................

I have recently replaced the cable box (digital DVR) and have already unplugged the box and tried it couple times...

Actually, the both side of the screw are perfectly fine...showing the perfect WHITE (see my 1st image)...it is just he center 75% portion of the screen, which has the 4:3 screen size are showing the tint of purple color...which I am wondering it is caused by those non-HD channel that my kid was watching while the both side of those channel are showing BLACK BARS at all time....does that cause the burning effect on my screen?

It doesn't make a logical sense (bear with me, I'm not putting you on the spot) for the television to only show that symptom in only that middle area. Is it possible that it could be showing that during the black bars. But if the whole screen is white, and only the middle area is affected, it sounds like it could be an issue with either the panel itself (usually not) or the boards (a more likely possibility).

Without being able to inspect the unit, it will be difficult to say which is more likely in your situation.

If you got this 15 months ago, I do have one option for you to try and get a free inspection/repair, but it will take a slight effort on your part.

And in the middle of the page, there's a green star. You mentioned that you were at 15 months. Try registering to get the additional 3 months of warranty, and then call 800-SAMSUNG, mention the warranty extension, and see if they can assist. If not, get a transaction number before you hang up and post it here. I'll see if we can get you helped out.

Thanks....I will give that a try. I too also going to unplug the screen for an hour and restart, reformat the whole thing and try it without the cable box and simply use my computer or blu-ray player and see the purple/red tint box is still infact or not.

OK...did that on Samsung website, but even with the extension, still no warranty. Samsung technician called me today and saying burn-in problem is not covered under warranty and it is my fault for letting the TV screen burn. Now, I am really upset about this....letting my 2 and 6 years old and non-Plasma technical friendly wife to watch channels that has no HD or 16:9 feature for no more then 2 hours per day will burn my TV...? That is not mentioned on the TV manual nor it is warned by SAMSUNG.

The TV is 16 months old now, and it is JUNK now....$3000 wasted. I still has a tube TV in the basement was made in 1984 and it is still working with my 1986 VCR. 3D or not is not matter no more...

He mentioned I need a new screen replaced and new board, at least $1800 plus labor.............wow. that is easy fix, just money.

No more plasma for me....no more Samsung as well.

Now, I have to pay someone to take this TV and do recycle, that is $150.....

I will have to try ABT now (the place that where I bought 3 Samsung TV, Blu-ray player and playstation 3)....if they offer better service then Samsung, then I will never buy Samsung anymore.

He is correct that it wouldn't be covered under the warranty but I was hoping perhaps there might be something they could do. I'm not in service, so I can't determine.

With all due respect, it is mentioned in the manual. On page 2, it's the first thing discussed on the warranty information regarding television format viewing and then also first thing discussed in user instructions right beneath the warranty information.

This is not a new development for plasma, and your salesperson should have mentioned that if you had a dialogue about which technology was the best for your situation.

But you said you had different colors - not burn-in or image retention, is that true? Or is a certain part of the panel darker than the others (sides, or top-bottom and the center?) If so, post your transaction number or reach out to the service thread here and request that a manager review the situation. Let them know that you were calling about a color problem relating to the picture, rather than burn-in and see if they can assist you that way.

Thank you for your help...I think, I will have to redirect my problem from BURN IN to color different...to be honest, my problem does not have any logo or marking BURNED IN onto the pixel...I have about 80% of the screen showing in pink/purple color especially when it has a white background....I think that is a panel problem.

Whatever that is, it is out of warranty, still, they just called me a new panel and labor will be around $1500-1800 and will take about 3 weeks to do so.

Very very disappointed...............but thanks for the help here.

I just have the HSC agent look the the TV at home (Home Service Center)..........he said there is nothing he can do. This is common from all the Plasma TV. He said I should use the SCROLLING feature 1 hour per day and hopefully this pink/purple marking will get less. But he said, the demage is done, and they will not be disappeared.

I have couple samsung transaction number.....the HSC is forwarded by the Samsung service technician that told me he does not need to come to look at that because there is nothing he can do to fix it....

I do not have a transaction number at all........but I will see the service technician from HSC will leave a note with transaction about his service today after I get home from work.

The TV and my other samsung products are all registered on the samsung website. And this TV is the only one that gave me problem. My other Samsung TV (LCD), monitor and even netbook and digital camera did not give me 1 single problem the last 2-3 years.

Thanks for the suggestion. So what I did is go back to AVS forum and do more search....guess what, this specific PNXXC6000-8000 all has this RED/PURPLE PINK banding problem. I have found at least 100 of pages of customer having this similar problem on this specific model....100 of pages of it,

I am so calling ABT or SAMSUNG and see what they can offer. Alot of forum user over there are having the same unit replaced or newer model with some money added.....however, the result is not perfect, some new model will have the same or similar problem 2-3 months or even weeks later....

But I am so calling ABT for warranty service...I am just surprise to see there are no such problem here in cnet forum....

BTW...I don't use screen fit, I am setting my TV to 16:9 and have the correct aspect ratio setting, no stretch or fit or force fit whatsoever....I have about 100 plus hours of burn in process done before I move in to the new house. That will be a torture for me to redo that again on the new TV....

Wish me luck about the ABT or Samsung warranty.......................

P.S...alot of the customer having this pink/red banding problem for like a year or so using of the TV.

sorry...what is the AVS forum and what is the ABT? keep me informed maybe i can avoid going to small claims court.
