'Incompatible Format' Error when playing HD on TV

Hi,

I have a Samsung DVD-SH893 DVD/HDD player connected to a Samsung LE23R7 TV.

When I try to play HD TV channels via the HDD I get a 'format incompatible' error.

Non HD channels play fine.

I've tried connecting the two together using SCART and HDMI, and I get the same error in both cases.

The HDD is receiving its TV input from a regular TV aerial.

I can play HD programmes on the LE23R7 from other sources (e.g. Orange TV decoder).

Not sure if it's significant, but I'm France.

Anybody any ideas where I might be going wrong?

Can you tell
a) How you receive a HD TV channel on the HDD via a regular TV aerial?
b) Why you don't connect the aerial directly to the TV to view that channel?

Hi Kees, thanks for the reply. I'm actually helping my girlfriend's parents set up their new TV, so I'm doing my best to understand their setup.

They're living in rented appartement, and we're guessing that plugging into the TV ariel socket in the wall is sufficient. Maybe that's asking too much ... We assumed that as the channels are showing up on the HDD box that the ariel is OK for receiving HD signals. And if it wasn't we would be seeing different errors.

They want to be able to record the HD channel on their HDD, and so we're just trying to view the HD channel via the HDD as a precursor to recording.

Why? Almost all HD content has HDCP and from what I know of SCART, it doesn't have HDCP.

If the content is sans HDCP, there is a slim possibility it might work. I'd forget SCART for now.
