I don't consider it as leadership. It's all the galaxy s+s2 money. They know they are behind in some categories due to the extensive effort put into their smartphones. They are behind in TV technology with LG, and see OLED as a bigger cash pot then smart phones. Samsung posted Q3, Q4 losses in television sets in 2011. I admit though, thats a lot of money to invest.

the reason they got the cash is because of selling top quality products. ive owned two samsung TVs, last one broke but after 5 years of use. I havent got a new TV yet but plan on a sammy model 4sho. LG is in no way same as Sammy. Lucky gold star is wack.

If you use the most immature generalized middle school term for "of low quality" to describe an electronics manufacturer,.... that is wack. Please tell me, why havent you replaced your TV yet? I'm sure most people replace their tvs either the day it breaks, a couple days after or before it breaks. Maybe you subconsciously know that samsung's TVs are "wack". I've owned a samsung plasma in 2004 and it broke down after 1 year, two days past the warranty. The experience i have and have heard from countless others solidifies my claim. I'm sure others have had other outcomes but it still doesnt change my exp. I'm curious what TV have you had for five years that was Samsung?

you're just mad u got a broke defect model. dont hate on all the innovative stuff sammy has. compare their TVs to any other out there. Since we all know the performance is top notch.... in the design department?? if rolex had a TV, they would pick Sammy.
u asked what my old Sammy was? it was the HPT-5084 plasma 50 inch. It was like almost 5 grand when i bought it and was still better than current tvs before it broke.
5 years for a plasma is hella long. so thats 1 grand a year. a little over 80 bucks a month i was more than happy tto pay. why what tv do u own? please lets see what weak lil box u have.

Ok. First of all, that TV you paid 5k for was a rip off. The HPT Samsung series were gimmick TVs that used "3D ready" as a feature to boost its prices. That feature was only available for computer games that supported 3D through high end video cards so basically less than 5% of the TV-viewing population.
But you are entitled to your own feelings about a particular TV which may cloud your judgement. After the recent CES, I'm willing to cough up whatever amount LG asks for with there new OLED 3D TV. But thats a different story: We're talking innovation here and Samsung hardly had it with the TV you dropped 5k for. As far as the design you mentioned? Have you compared LG's design to Samsung's at CES? LG's new "LED" line up looked better than Samsung's Super OLED. This is coming from a person who thought Samsung had the best "Design" for TVs. Not anymore.

I think you are riding LG's nuts way too hardcore. At CES Sammy had the best presentation. The SUPER OLED Design was killer and the guy who presented it spoke good english unlike your daddy.

I was there. Samsung's presentation was extremely tedious. Matter of fact, when the guy presented the OLED TV, NOBODY applauded until like 5 seconds later after given a cue. Very awkward. I agree their OLED TV was above par, but the LG OLED TV outshined it my friend. It is not I who is riding the nuts of LG but YOU who attatched yourself to the skin cells on Samsung's scrotum.

He does sound like holmes, or even Watson haha. But back to this topic, regardless of whether Samsung invests 40 billion or 100 trillion, currently LG's TVs look more promising than Samsungs line up for 2012. All the "Smart Ecosystem" stuff just looks sort of "rubbish" to me.

What's it with you and your anti LG pro Samsung. I respect pro choice but reasons you dislike and like would be adequate in supporting your statements. I have one question for you Benz, what "NEW" features will be in the Samsung OLED TV? As far as i know none except for the design and colors *which were blatantly obvious, were the only things spoken about. So if you would enlighten me.

digitalapex,
We offer a 3 month warranty extension for free if you register on the Samsung page (at least, that applies to U.S. customers - not sure about other regions).
If your TV broke a week out of warranty, I'd be interested in looking into your case.
To everyone else,
I'll continue to enjoy this online spat as much as the next person, but I was at CES and I saw both booths. Both companies are major players, and I even have a few personal friends that work for LG. I have absolutely nothing but respect for our competitors. Let's make my stance on this point perfectly clear:
Both companies unveiled several new ideas, and several technologies that the other did not. To completely generalize and categorize one or the other as "wack" or "baller" is about as extreme as I've seen so far, and resembles "sucks" vs. "rules" arguments. All you're doing is flaming the other person by means of generalizations. If that's what you're going for, I'll interrupt no further.
Okay, so one's LED looked brighter than the other. I thought ours were amazing. They were thin. The colors made headlines. LG made some too, and they looked really good too. They had a huge 3D wall that was impressive, and some of the new remotes looked really intuitive. See? I can say something nice about both companies.
LG is not "wack", and Samsung is not "wack" either.
Samsung had on display a TV that played two images at the same time with 3D glasses with mini-speakers. This allowed two people to watch and listen to two different shows on the same TV at the same time. I thought that was pretty cool. Will it be available this year? Only time will tell.
We re-introduced tubes into some of our audio products. If you're an audiophile, you know how cool that is.
If you wanted a camera built in on some TVs for Skype or face recognition for setting, we introduced that. And if you want to control your TV with gestures or voice, we introduced that.
Those are all pretty "baller".
Great. Now you got ME saying it, and I'm not even 100% what that means. Thank goodness for Urban Dictionary, otherwise I'd be wondering if I was going to get in trouble.
At first, I thought it meant... well, never mind that.
My point is that every company has a demographic they are trying to reach. We may not appeal to every customer out there. If you're looking strictly at price, then we're probably not the company you're going to choose. If you're looking for features, value or innovation, then we're definitely what you're looking at. I can't speak for any other competitor specifically, since I don't know what their strategy is. They'd have to tell you that. But I think Samsung products reach a huge demographic, and the sales back that up.
I don't really care where this discussion goes, but I wanted to clarify the simplicity of "wack and baller" does not really give readers much to go by. If you want to be persuasive and debate it properly, let's stick to the technologies companies are offering, rather than resort to ad hominem attacks on brands.
And HereisJenna, you've been consistently Pro-LG for quite a while, considering your history of posts. I don't take any objection to that. (By the way, LG and Samsung have both made screens for iProducts). But what new features is LG introducing that makes you excited and loyal? Does anything Samsung announced recently that I mentioned above sound neat at all?
I hope I'm not merely spitting in the wind, but re-directing the topic so that actual discussion is had rather than what I've seen so far by both sides. There IS a middle ground, and that's where the discussion is most fun.
These are the ways the discussion will have meaning - and dignity, rather than Ford vs. Chevy-type brand campaigning. I hope that helps.

Samsung_HD_Tech, you have an obligation to your Samsung duties which is why i am different from you. I'm just a regular consumer who happens to like LG based on experience. I have an LG TV/fridge/ monitor. LG isn't the only thing I like, I like Audi's, X Box, Samsung's Galaxy S2 phone, Logitech keyboards. This forum is for home audio and video and since I'm talking about TVs, I was just representing the one I prefer. Why do I prefer LG over Samsung? Previous experiences. Samsung's products for me just don't stop at TVs, they go from vacuum cleaners to fridges. I in fact used to be all about Samsung. The TV was the kicker in making me change. The only thing I use now that of Samsung is the galaxy s2, which I will give respect for. However in the TV department, sorry buddy.
I guess pulling a Steve Wozniak about LG and Samsung would be a conflict of interest for you.

Not at all. I openly complimented LG on their OLEDs looking good and their improved remote control designs in my prior post.
No obligations. No duties. No conflict of interest. Just like you had kind words for the Galaxy S2. You didn't have to say that, but you did.
That's exactly what I meant by middle ground.

Hmmm, that doesn't look right. I'm still willing to look into your claim of your set breaking a week out of warranty, however.
Your set is the Samsung PN59D7000, at least your profile states that's the model you reviewed. The one year warranty wouldn't be up yet, since it wasn't released in January 2011. They would have been released the earliest around Mid-March, which means you'd still be in warranty. Why would your set be denied a week out of warranty if it wasn't that old?
This isn't adding up. Let's take a look. I want to make sure you get treated fairly.

This is not cool at all.
Shame on the folks who are in this thread, with an exception of a couple of innocent bystanders. You know who you are.
Your posts, just like the one thread you started here in LG forum:
http://forums.cnet.com/7723-21568_102-554619/lg-55-inch-oled-tv-dedication-thread-buzz/
Are dishonest. Many of the member accounts here come from the same source or are all interrelated. I don't know who you are or what you are attempting to do, but this is considered shilling and we do not tolerate this in the forums!
I really hope you are not from LG, because this would reflect highly negative on your company's practices.
You are no longer welcome in our forums. Please tell your other friends or co-workers to cease and desist.
