I had the same symptoms on the same tv. Samsung sent a tech and they replaced the X-Main. With the rear cover removed, it is the board on the top right hand side. Seemed very easy to do. The tech said the board (x-main) would have cost $120 plus labor.

Samsung PN51D550 died

My 6 month old Samsung PN51D550 HDTV died today. It turned itself off, clicked for a few minutes and the red LED (near bottom left corner of frame) flashes twice quickly every second. This HDTV will not turn on, and is obvously very cheaply made. My famly is very annoyed. We will never buy another Samsung product.

The same thing happened to my 4 day old tv last November (2011). Now I have a 13 month old one, same model, and here we are again. Clicking and not turning on. Has anyone else had the main board replaced as a solution? Know where to get one without the service guy upcharge included?

In the USA I see folk get a 3 month warranty extension when they register the set at www.samsung,.com

Bob, thanks for your idea. I had pretty much ruled out the manufacturer as my warranty was just past; and we've all had failed experiences with that before. However, I did contact Samsung, explained the whole thing, and they sent out a guy under warranty. Samsung handled it very well and we are satisfied with their support.

The local guy at TechCenter, Bloomington MN deserves props, too. He called 24 hrs after the ticket was opened, came early, and was done in 20ish mins.

Since I arrived at this thread trying to do my own research, here's what was wrong for others who may need to fix it themselves:
Recap of the problem: pushed power button and tv made the normal turn on click, followed by the turn off click. This cycle occured 5ish times, then the red light flashed 2 times every few secs.

Fix: Tech unplugged the x-main board and the tv powered on normally, just without the back light, thus verifying that board was the problem. Replace x-main board.

I have the same problem. This must be a defective design by Samsung. I have never had a television break after only 14 months. I will buy the x-main and try the same fix. Thanks for the Information.

Can't afford to buy another Samsung even with the great picture.

Thanks for the note, but that is a Samsung USA support site and I am in Canada.

As well, the TV is already registered at Samsung.com so I would not qualify for the extra 3 months of service.
