Samsung forum: Samsung Smart TV Series 6 D6600

I used the Any Video Converter to convert the avi file to a viewable format. It worked ok but what was amazing was that it also allowed other files that were in this format and un-converted (including the one being converted) to display on my Video Folder on the Samsung TV for the 1st time. The external HDD I am using is the WD model # WDBAAU0020HBK-01. Does this say something is wrong or weird with the External HDD? Is their a fix? Has anont had this occure before? Thank you.

I will share that one could use MEDIA INFO from http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en to peek at working files then try encoding more like that.

I can not tell you which encoding to use as there is too many choices and even if I share what I encode for my TV, your TV may differ.

After having downloaded many video converters and not having much luck I was very close to buying a WD media player. So what I did was to format my HD (probably did not need to do this but hey it was a good excuse for a cleanup) and then decided to further research the web.
What I found that worked was
this:
1) Start by opening Video from the Smart Hub menu. I would see the same
'cached' view of the folders as before (no new folders and old folders not
deleted etc).
2) Moved to the "Switch Folder" icon where you can switch between Video, Photos and Music
and switched to Photos. Now I could instantly see that the correct folder
structure was being displayed.
3) Switch back to Video and I could now find the new files I had downloaded. So what was needed was a refresh of the HDD to identify the newly downloaded files.
I wonder if there is an easier way?

But it involved letting my teenage son do that for me.
