White Dots on Samsung DLP TV

I have a Samsung HLT 5076sx/xaa. I called Samsung and they stated the TV was not under warranty and they would be unable to repair the tv without a cost to me. I called a local tv repair man in Oklahoma and he stated he could replace the chip for over $500. I'm at a loss right now. I certainly don't have the extra $500 to put into this TV nor a new TV. I have numerous Samsung prodcuts in my house, but this will certainly be the last. It appears Samsung is well aware of the problem but unwilling to fix it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If that doesn't pan out, get more estimates.

Replacing DLP Chip Not Difficult

I ordered a DLP Chip for my Samsung HL-T5687S and replaced the chip myself after downloading the service manual at a cost of $25. I am an engineer but not a certified technician and, taking my time to keep the screws identified with the removals, it took me about two hours to complete. White dots are now gone. I ordered the DLP Chip from samsungparts.com. The chip was about $275. After returning the defective chip to samsungparts.com, I received a $50 refund so the final chip cost was about $225.

I was slapped down by Samsung regarding this issue. They told me that the failure rate on this particular model was not out of the ordinary, so they won't fix it, despite having fixed the identical problem on other models. I'll be trashing this useless set (not worth hundreds of dollars to fix). Too bad. I liked Samsung. I'll never buy their products again.
