Samsung HL-T6156W suddenly with bad sound

My Samsung HL-T6156W is suddenly having a very bad sound - everything is slightly distorted, especially all "s" sounds sound terrible. It happened out ouf the blue today and it is happening both with my DVR and my DVD player as source (both are connected via HDMI). The picture is still fine.

Anybody here with any idea what this might be and how I might be able to fix is myself?

Without inspecting it, I wouldn't know where to start for this particular symptom.

I'd recommend trying some troubleshooting with the Samsung support center at 800-SAMSUNG.
