Samsung Smart TV UN55D8000 YF -no headphone jack

We recently bought the new Samsung Smart TV model UN55D8000YF and are very happy with it. The only problem is that the TV does not have a headphone jack.
My mother who has hearing problems sometimes likes to watch on the new TV - normally with headphones on - to not disturb the rest of the family or the neighbors. (no kidding). When we tried to connect her headphones to the TV we discovered that there is not headphone jack.
We contacted Samsung support and received the answer that indeed, there is no headphone jack, and - no - we cannot connect the headphones over an adapter in one of the USB slots.
I am at a loss here - anyone else encountered this problem and has a suggestion for a solution? Could we use wireless headphones?

Check for an optical output.

Then look on amazon for an optical to headphone adapter.

Someone did find an optical headphone unit!

Hello,

I found the digital audio output (optical) right between the USB2 and USB1 outlet.
my question now, would I need just an adapter between the optical outlet and the existing headphone - will this decrease the audio quality? - or a whole new optical headphone unit, is the money spent worth the audio quality. And by the way - what kind of optical headphone unit (brandname?).
Thanks for your input.

headless3767,

Digital audio will not allow you to increase or decrease the audio, but sends a consistent audio stream.

So connecting it to a device (such as a receiver that would allow you to control the volume) would be the next step. There may be a line-out for RCA or other options as well. You can check the manual, or if you're looking for other options, please let me know.
