From all the posts in the forum and the great advice, i called 1-800-SAMSUNG after reading about getting an extension on my warranty and also getting the service comp'ed! Woo hoo.

I never registered for the warranty. I just told the rep that i bought it at Best Buy about a year ago. The rep was about to tell me how much it would cost, but i mentioned that i heard about a possible extension from reading in the Cnet forum and on blogs online. She told me Samsung can do a 1 time free complimentary service! Score. It pays to be sweet and nice from the beginning too. Talk to them like pals and they'll be more than likely to hook u up.

Thanks peeps in the forum for the tips. The whole process of getting this settled was like 10 mins of phone waiting and talking.

Sorry but all I can do is tell you the service tech did the right thing. However there appears to be folk that will not accept that removing a jumper, throwing a switch is the fix. Someday we hope for better explainers.

But I'd see if that jumper cut can be found out. If it is that jumper cut, there would be no need for an upgraded part.

I think Samsung is running around doing that for folk that are affected. But I know the satisfaction when I fix my own stuff.

If I can make one board that can be used in many systems just by snipping a jumper then we save in manufacturing costs. However as you see, if they forget to do the snip and it escapes the factory or inspection then you see the savings vanish.

mts5600a: Can you give me a more detailed description or a picture of where the jumper wire is located? I'm really interested in this fix! I would really appreciate any additional direction/tips you can provide for locating the wire. Thank you.

The TV was given to me outside of warranty because the original purchaser ended up buying a new one instead of having Samsung do the repair. I'm good with electronics, but I can't find a service manual for this TV yet. It sounds extremely simple to snip the jumper, I just need to know which wires are which (service manual would tell me if I could find one).

Performed by a Samsung contractor via TT Electronics in the Seattle area. All he did was open up the back and cut the jumper wire off the power supply which is located at the upper right. I believe the wire was horizontal? and located on upper left of the power supply board. If you can find a diagram or picture I can probably show you.

Did you by chance take a photo of where you snipped?

How can an electronic device whether it be a TV or anything else, operate properly for 2+ years, then all of a sudden needs a jumper snipped on the power supply board?

This will probably end up being a short term fix that is masking the real problem which will at some point reappear.

I had a repair guy come out (on Samsung's dime) and do the snip back in September. Fixed it perfectly then and still working now.

I am not disputing the fix works.. I have an LN46C670 that I have had no problems with and I am very happy with it. It is just baffeling how a device can work perfectly for months (or years), then all of a sudden, needs a jumper snipped.

So.. my origional post was to have it explained.. What is the science behind it. What does snipping the jumper do and why is it necessary after the device has been in service for some time?

I am having the same problem. The flickering is frustrating because I have this 46 inch TV that I can't even watch. Sometimes it will be perfectly fine for a few minutes and then it starts again until I unplug the TV. Samsung told me that I would have to use an outside provider since my TV is also a little over a year old. The provider says that it would cost 100 dollars just to come out and check. I think this is ridiculous that this TV is having this problem and it's not even old and the fact that other people are having this same issue. What was the outcome of your problem TV and what can I do?
