Samsung forum: Samsung 2011 Plasma TV Screen Filter is Peeling Off.

Probably about 1-2 times a day. I casually watched HD tv with the break in slides for no more than 4 hours at a time. I've also played PS3 games a few times for no more than an hour at a time. This sucks!

I initiated a Service Request through Samsung's website (#4008352192) and got a call from a local 3rd party needing to see the pictures before coming out. I just emailed them this morning so hopefully will get a call back soon what the fix is but as of right now I don't think there is one...

After reading this thread, I looked at my screen and noticed some sort of rubber coming out from under the TV. I got the TV 3 days ago and will probably just get a replacement, but it's not going to be fun. I'm including a picture below..

Received 59d8000 last Saturday - "peeling" problem on the upper part of the screen right under the bezel in 3 spots. Today received replacement - the same problem. The only difference - this time the bubble was huge, probably around 2 inch wide and 1 inch tall. Delivery guys were like "maybe it's a protective film?" I told them go ahead and remove it. After several attempts to stick their fingernail between the bezel and "protective film" they gave up and took replacement TV back to the warehouse. Now waiting on another replacement scheduled for Tuesday.

Good luck to all with this defect. After my second set went bad, 10 days in, I swapped it out for a 65" GT30. The uncertainty of a time frame for a true fix, coupled with Samsung's refusal to admit there is an issue was just too much for something that is supposed to be fun.

Are you able to let us know if Samsung is able to acknowledge this peeling problem yet and if they have seen any sets in person with this peeling?

I think many of us are hoping that Samsung has see the problem first (and all the pictures circulating) and have come up with the cause and fix as to why this is happening?

I would feel more comfortable knowing that there is a fix in place and the problem has been corrected and that future purchases / swaps / repairs of these sets will not have the same thing happen over and over again.

Someone suggested that the film being cut for the Real Black Filter may be being cut to small on some machines (providing there are several machines doing this) and they are not being held down by the bezel properly which in turn allows them to peel off since the corners are exposed. This doesn't explain why it's only the top left and right corners, but it's still a suggestion.

Also, this is not happening to the same series TV's e.g. 7000 and 8000 Plasma models in the 51" size. I read that this size is being manufactured or cut in another plant?.so this should also give some "direction" to where this problem lies and help find the route of it a little easier no?

Myself, and others alike I guess just want some reassurance that things will be corrected, especially for those still holding out to buy this TV after reading about the peeling in multiple forums.

Hey HD Tech,So I went through the Samsung website to create a ticket last week which wasn't too bad. A
day later I get called by a local 3rd party company to set an
appointment to come in a couple days (for this last Monday) since they
have to do some research to know what to expect and bring, which was
fine. I explain to them there is a slight buzzing coming from the back
of the TV and tell them my corners are peeling so they asked I send them
pictures which I did. Monday comes and get a call from another
rep from the 3rd party place and only concentrates on the buzzing sound
issue stating that the buzzing is normal for plasmas and if I cant hear
it more than 10 feet away it is not covered. 2 seconds later I get an
email saying my service ticket was cancelled! I immediately tell them
about my peeling issue and the email I sent before. She then says "let
me check...oh yeah". I will send out a technician in two more days (need
to do research) which would be today Wednesday. As far as closing out
the ticket she says she cant keep it open for too long and she can just
open another one. I asked why and she said that's they way they always
do it. Okay cool. Way to pick proper representation Samsung... The
technician comes today and wants to peel the anti-glare film off and
says its supposed to come off just wasnt taken off during the assembly.
This guy obviously didn't know what he was talking about. He asked how
old the TV was and told him it was brand new and I've had it for about
30 days. He then refused to do anything about it and for me to take it
up with the place I bought it from. He stated that if it was 5-6 months
he would want to open up the TV but would refuse to do anything or even
officially state that he refused to further inspect the TV. I was like
WTF! Wasted my afternoon taking off of work!So I call the place
where I got the TV from and they are being very resistive to helping out
saying there is a process to follow with Samsung and it's going to be
very difficult for them to do anything but they will check with their
management to see what they can do. Really...I am fed up with
this BS! I paid a lot of money for what I thought was a quality TV from a
quality vendor and is leading me down a path of dealing with a 3rd
party repair service that doesnt know what they're doing and a
distributor that is not properly servicing the customer. If I am able to
take back the my PND648000 I will trade it in for a Panasonic. This is
outrageous.

So the 3rd party technicians are coming to my house again for the second time and are going to replace the panel only. I would have preferred they replace the entire TV but I am guessing this one is going to peel also...

I have the peeling issue - noticed after quick inspection. Fortunately I noticed it before I had it calibrated. PN59D8000 manufacturered March 2011. I'm going to wait a little while to contact Samsung. Probably a couple months.

Do you have a link or model number, screenshot or URL that shows that?

I looked under several PNxxDxxxx models and didn't see that disclaimer.

It's a bad practice to comment on rumors, particularly discussions on the Internet. I just don't do it.

I've been "interpreted" too many times for my liking, and usually never in my favor.

Here's what I can say: the agents are aware of the issue at 800-SAMSUNG and on Twitter at our @SamsungService site. You should be able to find a resolution if you're willing to have your unit serviced.

If you run into trouble, get a transaction number and post it here or on a new thread. That way, I can escalate you to someone who can help if necessary. But go through the regular process first, please.

I've been interacting with Samsung Service via Twitter. If everyone could please tweet them @samsungservice. Also please reference #Samsungscreenpeeling so I can start a trend.

Had my panel replaced by a 3rd party a couple weeks ago. After running the break in slides for a few hours the screen started peeling again in one corner. I thought about creating another service ticket but just going to wait it out until there's a fix in place.

As a side note I created an email through Samsung website (even though my TV is not listed) I chose a random TV. I stated that I need to be informed of what Samsung is doing to investigate this issue and what corrective actions they have in place. I work for an Engineering firm so we deal with these types of problems, quality problems. They need to determine if this is a localized Manufacturing issue or just a bad design.

I wish I could go back in time and get a Panasonic. The peel is small but I know its there...Otherwise the TV picture is beautiful.

I can only share it has been a bad idea to delay reports of issues. Reporting ASAP is my advice.
