Samsung,
I am too an owner with my screen peeling. I picked up my PN64D8000 from Best Buy on Saturday May 28th and being aware of this peeling issue, i decided to inspect the tv prior to leaving the store. There were no signs of any peeling, the tv was perfect. To resume what happened next, here is my posting from the forums linked above:
I just wanted report back with an update on my peeling situation.
I inspected the set very closely when i picked it up from the store. There was absolutely zero peeling and i know what i was looking for and where to look.
After about 5 hours of watching tv, i still had no peeling. The minute i hit the 7 hour + hours viewed, the left side top corner has started to peel, the right side top corner is still intact.
Put on Toy Story for my daughter last night and after the movie was done (which brought the tv up to around 8.5 hours viewed, I inspected the peeling again. This time, the top left hand side has gotten worst and the top right side has started peeling but at a much faster rate, it's probably around 3 times the size of the left side and this all happened within 90 minutes as it was not there when i shut the tv off with the last movie i watched as i look for it each time i start and stop the tv (like this is what i want to be doing with a new set....)
I checked my set since yesterday and it has grown even more now. The top right side has officially reached the pixels.
I spoke to a supervisor already at Samsung Canada however i wasn't given a ticket number, i guess i can always call back and get it and repost it here for you. I also have 2 picture which i will upload shortly.
There are an alarming amount of people who have this problem, ranging between almost every size, 7000 and 8000 series, and build dates of March, April and May so it's not a 1 off bad production batch.
My tv has a build date of April, if you need more details off this set that may help, please let me know what they are and i'll post it for you.
I am certain this thread will grow at a very quick pace with people posting there same exact problems and hopefully ticket numbers as well. People are just getting home from work as myself hence why there isn't a lot of traffic yet. David posted some excellent links which clearly show all the people having this problem, pictures and how wide spread it is.
No one is looking for a fight here, and nobody wants to sue anyone, people are simply concerned and rightfully so. Myself, a Samsung lover, have 4 Samsung tv's currently in my house and am hoping to get this problem resolved so it stays that way. There are no threats, the goal here is to get this issue brought to the attention of people at the highest levels, including manufacturing as quickly as possible and get problem resolved as it has become a real pandemic.
God knows how many of these defective sets are laying on shelves and warehouses across North America with defective screens. As for service calls as you mentioned, not a realistic option right now as people on these forums have already had certified Samsung Technicians come to their house with brand new panels and as they were taking them out of the box, they had already started to peel and another panel was ordered. Some of them are also on there 3rd set which means in the end, Samsung is going to have an unprecedented amount of returns on their hands which will translate in a lot of $$ lost.
It's actually a really serious situation, it's not something Samsung will be able to fix with a simple firmware update, so it makes it that much more serious. I don't know if a recall would be appropriate, but it needs to be addressed fairly quickly for the benefit of both the client and Samsung collectively as this is not going to look good as this problem continue to become public knowledge with no fix in site yet.
I am hoping people will continue to post their pictures or at a minimum report back here with feedback.
I will post my pictures shortly.
Thanks for all the help you can give us!!!
Tony
